Spaces to Grow
Look Out Your Window
Have you ever looked our your window and wondered about that unused patch of ground on your doorstep? Could it be put to good use for community benefit to connect with and care for nature, get to know others locally, and grow some food? Increasing numbers of people in communities across Scotland are doing just that and you’d be amazed and what people are growing, and where. It’s not poor weather that holds us back, it’s our lack of imagination about the possibility of positive, proactive, collective effort to work with nature, improve land close to where we live and grow food. It’s all within our grasp, in many different settings, and it’s happening now across Scotland. Whether it’s a a shared garden, corner of a local park, or land surrounding a library or community centre, there’s potential to grow food all around us. “Spaces to Grow” encourages people to discover underused areas and turn them into nature friendly, food productive spaces. It’s often about starting small, thinking big and creating food growing opportunities —right where you are. This ongoing series will highlight a whole range of different spaces to get growing. Share your growing space and inspire others here.
